Dear members & friends of the European Hip Society,

I am delighted to welcome you to the thriving, beautiful city of Thessaloniki, in Northern mainland Greece, for the 16th EHS Congress, 16-17th October 2025.

This year, for the first time, we’ll be joined by the prestigious American and Japanese Hip Societies, as well as the hip section of ESSKA, SICOT and ISHA (Hip Preservation Society), and faculty from our long-term partner EFORT.

We are a very specialized, focused society and we invite all hip surgeons to come along and meet world experts from Europe, North and South America, Australasia, China, Middle East and Japan. Our collaborative scientific programme will stimulate all levels of surgeon and researcher, and according to our tradition, we leave plenty of room for discussion at each session, where you are invited to join the debate and be part of the evolution of our practice.

Our main themes are:

  • Paediatric & Young Adult Hip
  • Hip Preservation
  • Primary Hip Arthroplasty
  • Revision Hip Arthroplasty
  • Complications & Safety
  • Outcomes & New Concepts
  • Robotics & New Technologies
  • Artificial Intelligence & Big Data
  • Registries
  • Regulations & Legislation

Lifetime Achievements will be awarded in person to our three most highly esteemed members in recognition of their amazing careers in hip orthopaedics: Prof Emmanuel Dretakis from Greece, Prof Reinhold Ganz from Switzerland and Ms Sarah Muirhead Allwood from UK.

Our congress will take place in the Makedonia Palace, a 5-star hotel and congress venue on the city’s beautiful seafront (6km of promenade), with an unrivalled view of Mount Olympus across the Thermaikos Gulf. All just 20 minutes from our international airport.

Founded in 315 BC, the city oozes history at every turn and was home to Alexander the Great. It prospered throughout the Roman and Byzantine eras, surviving centuries of barbarism and was home to Greeks, Jews, Muslims, Bulgarians, Roma and Armenians. Our newly excavated metro line is an underground museum!

Today Thessaloniki is a vibrant, modern university city with a bustling shipping trade, as well as a popular tourist destination, with 550km of beach and crystal clear Aegean sea around the nearby peninsula of Halkidiki (an hour away).

I warmly invite you to come and see for yourself.

Prof Eleftherios Tsiridis
EHS President 2023-25
